Sparda Tribute - Some Notes (final edit!)

Fri Apr 10, 2009, 9:26 PM
Final EDIT

Wanna know what happened after Salvation?
[link]

Artwork open to interpretation, imagination is free to roam after all XD; All I did, is just ask a question as the lady ask, "Have you ever...really loved?"

And as I'd quote the answer to another friend a few days ago:

If you really love someone, you'll love that person unconditionally, without any need for a reason. And such love, usually transcends beyond words.

And so perhaps...Sparda has his own way to say it :D

So...have you ever really loved? :XD:

2nd EDIT!

It's done :XD:

COMPLETED version - [link]

I'm...proud of what I've done so far. I've never tinkered with PS this long - and I actually used to suck at controlling light/gradients, and I've definitely never went as far as to do an underwater piece - because I may be an art student, but I major in interior design, not illustration (no kidding!)

...which explains my amateur-ish illustration skills of the past. I've been learning on the sides on-and-off while studying for my major - and the efforts, have paid off :D

Sure, I sometimes get the body anatomy wrong, but I learn from my mistakes. And sure, I suck at using a tablet (that's why I never used one), but using a mouse can still produce a great artwork - just needs CONSTANT practice and create new techniques that can help me out to do the work faster. That's why when before I take AGES to do one work, now I can finish them under 2 days (and the extra day, I used for final touch-ups ^-^)

Okay, enough rambling on my side now. The Salvation project, one that I've dedicated lots of time and effort in, has now come to a close...

But I DO have...another one :devilish: It'll be a surprise. My hint? You can call it the secret 'ending' (sorry for the FF-influence XD;;; ) I don't know how far I can go with THAT one, but I'll try.

Anyhow, thanks for the support all these years, and hope you enjoyed my new works. Thanks again for viewing them, and have a nice day :D

1st EDIT: More Notes!

[link] >>>> It's NOT a manga one-shot originally. XD; *ish bricked*

Supposed to take detailed shots of the 300-dpi Sparda artwork (this here its resolution has been reduced to 90dpi to let it open in the browser easier+faster...), but the detailed shots start to tell a story of its own...

So I thought to take them and rearrange in a basic manga panel format to make them more presentable (can't just throw a mish-mash of them and upload it, it wouldn't do the artwork justice now would it?)

The original artwork (it's coming, it's coming) is supposed to show the moment he got saved (ack, spoiler! but not much, don't worry), but for SOME strange reason (heheh), the detailed shots are able to come together and tell THE STORY before he was saved (hence, the title Before Salvation).

If you're up to it, you can try comparing/searching for the parts in the final version that I've used in the Detail Shots. (Amazing, ain't it? That it can all be taken from just ONE picture ^^; I should try to do this more in the future!~)

So...if you thought that the Detail Shots are the preview to an actual DMC comic/doujin, I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding. Though in a sense, the final artwork can be the final "panel" to the "preview" - the last revelation on who finally saved Sparda :D

BUT as noted down below (and in my past few entries) there IS an actual SpardaxEva tribute in the works! I've the basic storyline, just needed to finalise the details and then I can start inking 'em. This is my first time doing this, so I'll do my best for it! (Don't worry, you wouldn't be disappointed ;) )

Original entry
I had scrapped some previous WIPs and thus, the deviation number fell a bit short when compared to my previous entry. But that has been solved - No.66 (it's a special number!) will be reserved for the Sparda tribute piece.

...it's a HUGE project. Quantity wise, DMC3TS's definitely had more work, but effort-wise, this Sparda artwork definitely took the longest because I want to make sure he's right, down to the details of his clothes. There ain't much good refs on him out here, so this also become somee sort of my own Sparda study (and now, I hope in future I can draw him better! :XD:)

It can be said that the one artwork that motivated me to try and give this project a go, was [link]

BUT inspiration-wise, it didn't come from there - it was based on a dream I had (I have proof of it on my LJ! Friends-locked for...personal reasons, 'course ;P) and the Saving-Sparda-vision kinda came true now - in the form of this tribute. I can call it as a way of trying to immortalize my dream :XD: (It's a good dream. It really is. And I treasure it.)

While writing the words for the detail-shots, it reminded me a bit of Trinity Blood, when I see some sort of symmetry happenin' - like who can save Father Abel when he's in trouble...so that sort of got reflected in the detail-shots where my take is: Who CAN save His Lordship Sparda when he's trapped?
Both being stewards in their respective universe @ one who save others without question and often sacrificing himself in the process, nobody ever really thought of who can save them where they were facing trouble - so in a way, I think my tribute can help give a possible answer, at least.

But I'm almost there! It got hard between choosing the grunge version (took the longest to do), the blue version (colour mood kinda reminds me those FFX official artworks LOL), and the underwater version (which I chose in the end) - just to further solidify the dream-inspired vision. I wanted to give the saviour here a less distinct identity - it CAN be me, but it CAN be you as well, as long as the heart's in it in saving Sparda, IMHO.
(and also so that I don't get accused for the art-crime of purposely adding oneself into the fandom's universe - not that it's a bad effect, but I sometimes wondered why people get so miffed about it o--O; )

When I'm feeling like it, I might just make the other versions into a wallpaper - my desktop sorely needs a new DMC background. *sigh*

Well, it's been a long note, but it's for my own record :) Kinda like a WIP-note, just so I know/understand my process (gah, I'm being influenced by my academic-routine now!)Hope this cleared things up a bit too, and I apologize again for the error committed on my part...

That's all. Hope you enjoyed my works as much as I have with them :D
